Valentine's Day // Love is All You Need

When you think Valentine's Day, it's easy to either blah blah blah where's the wine? or completely over analyze what you are going to buy that special someone in your life. Gone are the days of the Ninja Turtle valentine's you got to pass out in middle school. Of course, I am still a huge fan and see no reason not to hand them out to coworkers, family members, etc! They're cute and cheesy and I adore them. BUT this post isn't about what you need to get your partner or all about having someone to spend it with.

As I've gotten older, I've realized that while, yes, Valentine's day is a bit of a Hallmark holiday, it's really all about the love. Whether it's your boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, brother, sister, dad - the love between you should be celebrated! And more importantly, it is about the love you have for yourself. It is important to celebrate the love between you and the people who mean the most to you, but it is even more important to realize how awesome you are because you, my dear, are the most awesome and most deserving of love out of everyone in your life. So here are a few ideas on what to do/give all the special people in your life, including yourself.

Valentine's with Bae // Here's the thing. Greg and I are celebrating our third Valentine's Day together this year (how did that happen??) and it's always been a bit rough because our anniversary is literally like, two weeks before, so what do we do? We're not really big on celebrating other than making sure we get to spend at least some time together whenever it comes around. But how much do you spend? Do we even give each other gifts and should we set a limit? One, even if we do set limits, neither of us follows it. Two, it's always been more of a 'what should we do' over 'what should we get'. I, for one, would much rather an inside joke kind of gift than something from Tiffany's. Urban Outfitters is great for this! They have HILARIOUS cards there, my personal favorite is their Yeezy collection. My advice for you and your significant other is to just have fun with it. You should be loving and celebrating your love year-round so Valentine's is just another day, really. Cook a nice dinner, get each other something silly, and watch each other's favorite movies or tv shows. Throw in donuts, and you're set! But if you really want to do something, I suggest going on a hike. It's been mine and Greg's tradition since we started dating and I wouldn't choose anything else.

Valentine's with your BFF // Let me get real with you for a second. Valentine's Day should really be about showing your best friend the love because without them, half of us would be lost. Really! Where would I be if I didn't have a best friend to send a novel text about how emotional and awful my week is because Winter is here? I'd be a mess, that's for damn sure. And the fact that my best friend surprises me at work after that text with my favorite drink from Blue Bottle just proves that Valentine's Day should be about your best friend more than anything. So, send your BFF a card, a text, a care package with all their favorite things - whatever! Just make sure you let them know exactly how much you appreciate them.

Valentine's with YOURSELF // This is probably the most important paragraph I want you to take from if you're reading this. Use today, tomorrow, this week to just LOVE yourself! I think it's easy for all of us to forget to appreciate ourselves sometimes and really just sit down and think -wow, I'm kind of a badass- so use this as an excuse to be able to celebrate that! I'm going to absolutely suggest doing a bit of a Lush haul, maybe go get a nice mani/pedi, light some candles, play your favorite album, and throw in your favorite bath bomb. As long as you take some time out of the day to relax and allow yourself to not think of anything or anyone but YOU. You should be loving yourself every single day of the year but what better day to start than Valentine's Day?

There are plenty more people you could and should be loving but really, Valentine's Day shouldn't be a stressful over the top holiday. So, I really just hope that whatever you're doing and whoever you're with, you're having the best day! As The Beatles once said, all you need is love.

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all! Let me know in the comments below what you're most excited for this Valentine's Day! xx
