Peppermint White Hot Chocolate !!

Goodbye Fall, HELLO WINTER !!!  Okay, so I know Winter doesn't actually start until later this month, but I can't be the only one who goes into full on Winter mode as soon as December hits. This is one hundred percent my favorite time of the year. Honestly, December 1st will probably be a holiday for my future husband and kids.

With December comes longer nights and colder weather where the only thing you want to do is snuggle up with your coziest socks, most holiday spirited movies, and a nice hot mug of something to warm you up. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm not a fan of hot drinks. I will choose iced coffee over hot even on the rainiest of days. Aside from a very select few and hot tea (which I could never get enough of, why can't I live in England??), iced is my drink of choice. Today, I am here to share with you one of those select few hot drinks I like to cozy up with that is easy to make and will get you into your blanket fort ready to watch Love, Actually in ten minutes.

Whether you are 5 or 105, hot chocolate is basically the universal drink of choice on a cold, winter's night, right? Well this here recipe gives the old fashioned hot cocoa a little bit of a kick, and you can make it look festive with a candy cane topper! Here is everything you need to get started.

  • 4 cups of a milk of your choosing
  • 1 cup of white chocolate chips (or white chocolate cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract (can be adjusted depending on taste)
  • optional - but highly encouraged - whipped cream, marshmallows, candy cane, crushed peppermints

Let's Make This

Step one: In a small to medium size pot, pour four cups of your choice of milk and one cup of white chocolate chips. You will want to set the stove between a low to medium heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture comes to a simmer and the chocolate is melted.

  • It is important to note that you DO NOT want the milk to come to a boil and you want to make sure not to let the chocolate stick to the bottom of the pan.

Step two: Once the milk and chocolate come to a simmer, keep over a very low heat and mix in one teaspoon of vanilla extract as well as half of a teaspoon of peppermint. Depending on how minty you want the drink to be, you can adjust to your liking. The first time I made this, I didn't put enough, the second time, I put too much. But it really depends on preference so let your tastebuds lead the way on this one! Stir everything together gently and remove from heat.

Step three: Pour into your favorite mugs, top with whipped cream and baby marshmallows, let a candy cane hang off the side, put on your favorite holiday movie, and let the taste of the holidays fill your mouth.

As you can see, this recipe is super simple and literally takes about 15 minutes if you include getting everything situated. It's easy to make and the perfect dessert drink for dinner parties or just hanging out. The recipe I've given serves approximately four people, but it is very easily adjustable.

HAPPY DECEMBER, EVERYBODY!! I am really excited about everything I have planned for the blog this month, especially after taking a couple months off from it. BLOGMAS IS OFFICIALLY HERE and I can't wait to share it with all of you!!
